First things first, you'll need to decide if you want to use your engagement photos for your save the dates, invitations, decorations at the wedding/reception or not. If you plan to use them for save the dates and/or invitations then you'll definitely want to plan to have the session 6-9 months prior to the wedding, especially if you have guests coming from out of town and need town send out save the dates sooner. If you aren't using this as an engagement session, are you needing the photos for anything in particular? It will be helpful for me to know the reason behind your session and if you have a specific use for them in mind!
All right, let's get down to business!
》Picking your location:
• I'm perfectly fine with choosing a location for you, based off of your likes/dislikes and personalities, but your engagement session can be even more magical if you choose a location that means something to you as a couple. Consider where you met, had your first date or simply just somewhere that you love to spend time together. Do you want to use your wedding location or somewhere with similar vibes?
• Do you want multiple locations? If the session is only 1 hour long make sure to choose locations within about 15 minutes of each other. Or we can do a longer session, or another session on a different day.
》What to wear:
• Make sure that you wear something that you feel good in. If you're uncomfortable you won't enjoy posing and cuddling up with your love!
• Wear colors that compliment each other, not the exact same color. If you both wear solid black it's easy to look like a blob when you're close together.
• Neon or bright bright colors can easily cast onto your skin and are sometimes very difficult to edit out of the photos.
• Consider the location/s you will be at for the session. If you wear brown or earthy greens in a wooded area you will tend to blend in, rather than be the focus of the photos.
》Hair & makeup:
• It isn't necessary to have either professionally done, so it's okay if that isn't your jam. Maybe you are having your hair and/or makeup done on your wedding day and you choose to use your engagement session as a "test run" to see how you and your hair/makeup artist vibe!
》Tanning:
• Do not plan on tanning in the few weeks leading up to the session. Two reasons: sunburns and tan lines.
• If yourself tan or spray tan, plan to stop at least a week before the session in case you do burn or the spray tan is too dark or orange. Keep in mind that spray tans can cause streaks or look blotchy. Also, choose the lightest option for a more natural glow.
》What do you want to do, or have, at your session?
• Do you love cars or trucks? Does one, or both, of you race? Do you enjoy sipping beers, wine or whiskey together? Like going on hikes? Do you love music or playing instruments? Think about the things that you have bonded over, even if it's something as simple as having movie nights together, we will make it magical.
》Bringing pets and/or kids:
• Absolutely! They are just as invested in the relationship as you are. If you choose to bring them, also bring someone that you trust to watch them while we take photos of just the two of you.
》How do you envision your photos?
• I will send you a questionnaire to get an idea of your interests and the vibe that you want.
• Feel free to send me photos that you have seen and liked.
• Be yourselves! Play around, dance, tickle each other, joke around. I want to get to know you as a couple, especially if I'm also working with you for your wedding.
》What to bring:
Definitely bring a bag to throw your phones, keys, wallets and any other props in. You may want to bring a little makeup in case touch ups are needed. Also, if you're planning on bringing beer, wine, champagne, etc., remember to bring glasses and a way to seal the bottle back up.
